Miranda Lakerveld creates opera’s about global issues in international collaborations and with communities in Amsterdam. With her works she aims promote dialogue and address global inequality. In 2008 she founded World Opera Lab. Currently, World Opera Lab works on ‘Ring of our Time’, a piece about the misuse of natural resources, created in four continents with artists from different musical traditions, heritage-keepers, activists, policymakers and scientists in Nigeria, Iraq, Indonesia and Mexico. Four teams conducted research in cultural heritage relating to natural resources, resulting in new works; ‘Brides of the Rain’ in Sulaymaniyeh with water-organizations in Iraq, ‘Mugaa To’/Feeding the River’ in Pontianak with Balaan Tumaan ensemble, ‘Ancient Stories for Modern Times’ in Lagos with dance-communities in Oworoshoki and ‘Sujuy Ja’-Sacred Water’ in Maya communities in the Yucatan. In 2025 these artists will come together to create the final piece in Amsterdam. Next to her artistic work, Miranda has been an advisor at several Dutch arts foundations, and is currently an advisor at the Dutch National Arts                                                                                  Council.
