Jarosław Fret, founder and leader
of Teatr ZAR, theatre director and actor; Director of the Grotowski Institute;
curator of the theatre programme of Wrocław: European Capital of Culture 2016.
In 1999–2002 he carried out a series of expeditions to Georgia, Armenia
and Iran, conducting research into the oldest forms of religious music of
Eastern Christianity. His performances have been seen in Los
Angeles, Florence, San Francisco, Chicago, Sybin, Athens, Edinburgh, Madrid,
Belgrade, Paris, Cairo, Seoul, Rio de Janeiro and New Delhi.
Since 2011 he has been the leader of Armine, Sister, Teatr ZAR’s new
performance project that explores the unique tradition of Armenian modal
singing and how it was preserved after the 1915 Armenian Genocide. Due to premiere in November 2013.
Awards and honors:
- In 2009 Teatr ZAR was named Best New Music Theater
by Los Angeles Times;
- Winner of a 2010 Wrocław Theatre Prize for the Gospels of Childhood triptych;
- Winner of a Total Theatre Award and a Herald Angel
Award at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe.
Originator and coordinator of numerous Polish and international projects within
the Grotowski Institute, including the UNESCO-declared Grotowski Year 2009, the
Masters in Residence programme and the International Theatre Festival "The
World as A Place of Truth”.
His efforts led to the opening, in 2010, of Na Grobli
Studio, a new location of the Grotowski Institute.

Teatru ZAR, reżyser, aktor; dyrektor Instytutu im. Jerzego Grotowskiego,
kurator programu teatralnego w ramach Europejskiej Stolicy Kultury Wrocław 2016.
W latach 1999-2002 zrealizował szereg wypraw do Gruzji, Armenii i Iranu,
prowadząc poszukiwania w obrębie najstarszych form muzyki chrześcijańskich
kościołów wschodnich. Jego spektakle pokazywane były m.in. w Los Angeles, Florencji,
San Francisco, Chicago, Sybinie, Atenach, Edynburgu, Madrycie, Belgradzie,
Paryżu, Kairze, Seulu, Rio de Janeiro, Nowym Delhi.
Począwszy od 2011 roku prowadzi nowy projekt Teatru ZAR Armine, Sister,
odnoszący się do wyjątkowej w kulturze ormiańskiej tradycji śpiewu modalnego
oraz sposobu w jaki została ona zachowana po Ludobójstwie Ormian w 1915 roku. Planowana
premiera - listopad 2013.
Uhonorowany m.in.:

dzieciństwa (2010),

Pomysłodawca i koordynator licznych projektów
realizowanych w Polsce i za granicą w ramach programu Instytutu Grotowskiego, m.in.:
Roku Grotowskiego UNESCO 2009, programu Masters in Residence oraz
Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Teatralnego „Świat miejscem prawdy”.
Dzięki jego staraniom w 2010 roku otwarta została nowa siedziba Instytutu
Grotowskiego - Studio na Grobli.
