This morning we, and by "we" I mean the world, has woken up to a new reality. Not so very long ago I joked with two friends who categorically stated that if Brexit occurred and Trump got in they would be moving to New Zealand. At the time we laughed at the absurdity of it all but alas now, a reality. So how in this era of globalization has a wave of isolationism taken hold so firmly?
ISPA as an organization values above all diversity and inclusion. These values have taken on a new importance in light of these global events. We as a community in the performing arts need to continue to reflect these values to the communities in which we work. I believe that the role the arts plays in society has never been more important than it is now. This January we will come together to discuss Arts, Power and Politics - how timely and I do hope you'll join us to engage in the dialogue.
In the meantime, late night television, comedians and satirists will have rich fodder for their material - small consolation but important that we continue to laugh!
