To mark the 2013 centennial of the infamous premiere of The Rite of Spring, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and SITI Company will join forces to create a new dance-theater work reflecting on the cultural impact of what is arguably the most important composition of the 20th century. Commissioned by Carolina Performing Arts (UNC Chapel Hill), the new work will combine the talents of Bill T. Jones and Anne Bogart as co-directors. These acclaimed American artists have long admired each other’s work but never worked together. The new piece will be a deep exploration of the significance of The Rite of Spring as well as an experiment in the joining of two artistic communities and ways of working in an unprecedented collaboration. The directors hope to create a work that imagines the feeling of hearing the breathtaking score played for the very first time.
