Today we’re highlighting choreographer Yang Liping’s Rite of Spring, produced by Peacock Contemporary Dance Company (PCDC). You may remember this work in development was presented to delegates at the New York Congress last January. The piece is the second contemporary dance work by China’s iconic choreographer and dancer, Yang Liping. It interprets the original Stravinsky musical narrative of ritual sacrifice, uniquely influenced by Chinese and Tibetan perspectives.
Nine months later, Rite of Spring will have its world premiere at the China Shanghai International Arts Festival (ChinaSPAF) on October 19! We are delighted to see that since their pitch, co-producers Sadler’s Wells and China Shanghai International Arts Festival have been joined by ISPA partners and members, Beijing Poly Theatre Management Co., Ltd, Melbourne Festival, Brisbane Festival, Stanford Live, and Edinburgh International Festival! If you’re at ChinaSPAF – don’t miss the opportunity to see the genesis of this new work.
With a proven track record for success, ISPA’s Pitch New Works program continue to assist works in development with securing touring dates, regional agents, co-commissions, premiere and more.
