Manchester Camerata with Rushil Ranjan and Abi Sampa

Manchester Camerata

with Rushil Ranjan and Abi Sampa
United Kingdom

Manchester Camerata is the UK’s most relentlessly pioneering orchestra. We exist to enhance and elevate everybody’s lives through exceptional music, and we work with the worlds-best creative talent to make this happen. Today we are performing Shikwa, a collaboration with Rushil Ranjan and Abi Sampa created especially for Bradford Literature Festival. This symphonic interpretation of Allama Muhammed Iqbal’s legendary Urdu poem, Shikwa (Complaint) is a bold and thought-provoking work characterised by powerful imagery, evocative language and a deep sense of pathos. As relevant now as when it was first penned in 1909, Iqbal addresses God directly, voicing the collective grievances and disillusionment of the Muslim world with its state of affairs. This epic new musical work is written and composed by Rushil Ranjan, vocalised by Abi Sampa and performed by us. Join us for what promises to be an extraordinary performance featuring the first orchestral interpretation of Muhammed Iqbal’s work.
