Butshilo is a Zimbabwean playwright, theatre director, percussionist, theatre academic and storyteller. His work focuses on community, heritage, and African theatre for marginalised communities, with co-creation central to his work. He has been commissioned by the Royal and Derngate Theatre, Theatre Temoin, York Theatre Royal, Sheba Arts and Theatre Deli to create plays that reflect the lived experiences of displaced people in the UK. He has also worked at the Royal Court as part of the Translation project working on Cont Mhlanga plays. Butshilo was an ISPA global fellow in 2014 and 2015 and was invited to give a regional update at the New York Congress.

He is also an educator and communicator, lecturing on Global Theatre Management and Practice at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and on MA Playwriting and BA Current Trends modules at the University of York, Race and Diversity in Social Work at the University of Sheffield and offers master classes, workshops, and collaborations globally.
