Erica is a theatre director who has been an artistic leader for more than two decades. Artistic Director at Southwark Playhouse, The Gate Theatre, London and Northern Stage, she joined the RSC in 2013 as Deputy Artistic Director and was Acting Artistic Director 2021-2023. Under her tenure the company recovered its artistic and financial confidence and won 6 Olivier Awards for My Neighbour Totoro - the largest company of South-East Asian artists ever seen in London. Erica has directed all over the UK and pioneered large-scale co-creation with her 2016 Midsummer Night's Dream; A Play for the Nation. She co-led the RSC's 37 Plays project, encouraging first time and established writers to write and submit over 2000 plays for a unique collection of stories of the UK post-pandemic. Most recently Erica directed Hamnet for the Swan theatre, Stratford which will transfer to the West End in September.
