LA MÈCHE COURTE arts vivants
Canada

Mélanie Dumont is co-artistic and co-executive director of LA MÈCHE COURTE, a new international performing arts festival for young audiences in Montreal.

Previously, Mélanie worked at the National Arts Centre (NAC) French Theatre in Ottawa as Associate Artistic Director. For twelve seasons, she was committed to offering audiences aged 0 to 20 a broad, interdisciplinary programme, as well as initiating numerous co-creation projects with children and teenagers. To further strengthen the youth programming at the NAC, she established the first North American branch of the BIG BANG Festival. She has been its curator since its debut in Ottawa in 2019.

Over the last fifteen years, Mélanie has also been active as a dramaturge, collaborating with a wide range of artists. At the same time, she has published essays on the performing arts and co-edited several collective publications, including most recently A Joyful Revolution: Creating adventurous music projects for young audiences (2023).
